More summer reading for the informed investor

In a recent issue of Barron's, Gene Epstein highlighted nine books about economics and capitalism that you might want to include as part of your summer reading at the beach:
“While some want escapist reading in July and August, plenty of books have been published this year for those who crave summer reading that deepens their intellectual capital. The nine recommended books are aimed at that second category of reader, and this reader, at least, found them hugely absorbing. Three are written by professional economists; all are on economic themes.” While none of these books focus specifically on the mechanics of investing, they may add a layer of depth and complexity to your understanding of the global economy and the inner workings of American-style capitalism. So, without further ado, here are the nine books recommended by Gene Epstein:
(1) The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism by economist Robert P. Murphy
(2) Walt Disney by Neal Gabler
(3) The Forgotten Man by Amity Shlaes
(4) The Age of Abundance by Brink Lindsey
(5) Radicals for Capitalism by Brian Doherty
(6) Web of Deceit by Barry M. Lando
(7) Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell (a new and updated version of the critically-acclaimed book that was originally published in 2000)
(8) A Year Without "Made in China" by Sara Bongiorni
(9) Income and Wealth by Alan Reynolds
